In this Mental Coach Mentoring video, Dr. Cohn answers the question: “What’s the best way to make contact with athletes?” Making contact with athletes is a big challenge for newly certified MGCPs or mental game experts coming out of graduate school. Developing relationships is critical to helping your find work. Sometime you have to look within your own circles.

I could not agree more with what Patrick has to say here. This concept of ‘teachable moment’ is vital and is one I too have learned, perhaps the hard way!
As a mental game coach, you have to be prepared to turn work down when you feel you won’t be most effective.
To find the ‘teachable moment’, I find the athlete must be in position of ‘performance pain’ that means they have a strong will to do something different.
